Advanced Subsidiary (6PY01, 6PY02) A2 (6PY03, 6PY04)
Course content and examination requirements:
The GCE in Photography is designed to encourage an adventurous and enquiring approach to art and design. Successful students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary photographic practice and be able to produce work that embraces a range of ideas.
Photography - lens and light-based media includes works in film, video, digital imaging and light-sensitive materials. Sometimes, techniques and processes are used to convey messages and create works related to other disciplines, such as photographic images in printed journals, light projections within theatrical or architectural spaces.
Work in photography - lens and light-based media should form a means of personal enquiry and expression involving the selection and manipulation of images. Students must employ creative approaches which go beyond mere observation and recording.

Relevance to further studies and careers:
Photography is universally recognised as a valuable and versatile A level by institutions and employers because of the transferable skills it develops. It is valuable for the development of the skill of independent thought, organisation and creativity. Traditionally, it can be combined with many other subjects, especially the Humanities and English Literature. Many students continue their studies at Art College, initially following a one year Foundation course at an Art College in their locality before embarking on a course in their chosen specialism at University.
