Course content and examination requirements:
Progression to AS will be smooth as the topics, chosen for their relevance to young people, are familiar from GCSE work. You will develop a better understanding of French culture and gain a more thorough knowledge of grammar to help express yourself more effectively. You will have the chance to study French film and read or listen to articles and the news in French online. Family relationships, healthy living, media and popular culture are some of the themes covered. Candidates will be required to spend time in a French speaking country and a work experience programme abroad will be organised.

Unit 1 |
Unit 3 A two hours and thirty minutes written examination with a range of questions based on approximately six minutes of heard material and on a selection of written texts. Candidates will also respond in writing to a question based on one of the four A2 cultural topics. |
Unit 2 |
Unit 4 A thirty five minutes (including twenty minutes preparation time) speaking assessment. Candidates will present a point of view based on a French stimulus card from one of the A2 topic areas and take part in a conversation covering 3 further A2 topics. |
Entry requirements:
GCSE Grade 'A' is recommended.
Relevance to further studies and careers:
Advanced knowledge of a language is an asset to any employer and provides a highly marketable skill in the business world. A language degree or a language combination degree demonstrates academic competence and hence entry into the higher professions. Common career destinations for Linguists are Law, Diplomatic Service, Banking, Journalism, Translating, Travel and Hospitality and Teaching.
